Florida.
Here's the report for
March through April and into early May. We are behind schedule this year due to
the extremely cold winter it's as cold a winter as I can ever remember. We had
some mullet freezes and everything this year. The good news is Spring officially starts today and people are out and about
and Spring Fever is running rampid. The fish are
starting to show up on the beaches there are schools of redfish mainly oversize
bull reds from Mexico
beach to the point at the cape. The whiting bite is strong as ever. They are
not hard to catch just use fresh shrimp on a carolina
rig or double pompano rig. The pompano schools are showing up on the beaches
but not yet in numbers. They should come out in full force by the end of this
month. When they show up the spanish
mackerel will also come in. Try trolling the bouy
line or look for surface action outside the point. Keep a spinnig
reel ready for cobia as well they have their ear muffs off and are headed our
way as we speak. Early in the season you will be looking for migratory fish
which can be very large some even topping a hundred pounds so make sure your
tackle can handle it. Spool up and get ready. The best place to find the fish
is right off the beach up to two miles offshore. Looking the outside of the
point and State Park area at the Cape will get
you a shot at one of these big boys. Later in the season try fishing wrecks in
the Car Body Area they will be "Ling"ering
around. The trout bite will get fast and furious on topwater
around Black's Island very soon if not right
now. Consistently every year there are Gator Trout caught mostly on Top Water
some over 10lbs. They are done hybernating and ready
to eat so this may be the best time to catch your personal best. Redfish should
start roaming the bay and Pomapano Point is a great
place to start looking for them. They can be spooky so when the water warms up
a bit you may want to try some wade fishing it is by far the steatlhiest approach. Get out there and fish the more time
you get on the water the better chance you have of catching some trophy fish!
